Finding Out More About Antique Thimbles And China Porcelain

Home and Family May 12th, 2008

European, especially British, porcelain, pottery and china are by and large very well marked as to who made them. The registration mark is another identification tool available to help you decipher when your antique item was made.

The registration mark appears as a diamond shaped mark and gives the EARLIEST possible date of manufacturer. These marks were used on porcelain, pottery and china from 1842 through 1883. The purpose of the mark was to show that the design or shape had been registered at the Patent Office in London and was thereby protected from piracy by other manufacturers for a period of three years.

Miniature Laptops Have Drawbacks But Are Useful Gadgets

Computers and Technology, Home and Family April 30th, 2008

One of the major promises of modern computer technology is the prospect of smaller and smaller gadgets. This promise has been fulfilling in many ways. For example, mobile phones are not only more powerful than they used to be, but that power is built into much smaller handsets. The same miniaturization technology has been translated into gadgets like portable media players that essentially condense an entire home entertainment center- and all of the media that would go with it into a device that can fit in a pocket the same thing is true about computers. Dozens of times the computing power of a top of the line desktop computer can now be packed into a relatively cheap laptop. While the ability to pack more computing power into ever smaller gadgets is a noble goal, in some cases it can go too far. This is often the case when it comes to miniature laptop computers.

Once I ran across these statistics I was shocked and realized how much I really needed software to help protect my child while he was online….Did you know that an estimated 725,000 people have been aggressively pursued for sex online, and that 1 out of 4 CHILDREN were sent pictures of people who were naked or having sex. I also found out that 1 out of 5 kids were solicited for sex on the Internet and 50 percent of people have made phone calls with someone they chatted with online.

A Couple New Time-saving Tools From Google

Home and Family, Internet April 9th, 2008

For simple searches and finding very specific information quickly, nothing beats Google.

Google has recently added a couple very useful enhanced features worth looking into if you Google too. One is a little program download that allows you to add Google to your Internet Explorer browser toolbar (There is also a version for Firefox users, and I’m sure Google has other browser toolbar options on the way soon). Whenever you are surfing the web, rather than having to jump to the Google homepage to initiate a search, you can simply type your search term/phrase into your Google toolbar feature, and initiate the search immediately. It saves you a single step, which probably saves a few seconds every time you initiate a search (more if using dial up). This time will add up very quickly if you are making several searches every day.
